Gary Graham – Extracting Ghosts

Fashion designer and artist Gary Graham will present his talk “Extracting Ghosts” as part of the Penny Stamps Speaker Series at the Michigan Theater. Graham began his career in 1999 in New York City where, for 20 years, his celebrated women’s wear line continued to be sold at his flagship store in Tribeca – as well as at luxury retailers worldwide. He has now shifted to producing small-batch collections in his upstate New York studio under the name GaryGraham422. His work draws inspiration from antique textiles, historical figures, and architecture, resulting in visionary 21st-century fashion deeply rooted in heritage.

In this talk, Graham will explore his research-based, site-specific practice, reflecting on how memory and place inform his designs and installations. His wide-ranging career includes collaborations with Kara Walker and Meredith Monk, appearances in major museum collections, and a finalist turn on Amazon’s “Making the Cut.” Currently a faculty member at the Rhode Island School of Design, Graham continues to inspire new generations of artists. With support from Design Core Detroit and the University of Michigan Arts Initiative. The event is free of charge and is made possible by a grant from the Arts Initiative at the University of Michigan, with support from Design Core Detroit.

A2 Artoberfest

Meri Lou Murray Fall Festival

Autumn comes alive at County Farm Park with the Meri Lou Murray Fall Festival. This family-friendly event in Ann Arbor is perfect for kids and the young at heart looking to embrace the season. Visitors can get creative with mini pumpkin decorating, enjoy a Story Trail along the scenic park trails, delight in face painting by Colorful Events, and meet friendly animals at the petting zoo. Little ones can also enjoy playground playtime, while the whole family samples seasonal flavors during the heirloom apple tasting. Fall Fest

Domino’s Petting Farm, 3001 Earhart Rd, Ann Arbor
October 18th-19th

Embrace the cozy charm of autumn at Domino’s Petting Farm’s Fall Fest, a beloved seasonal tradition full of family-friendly fun set against the backdrop of the farm’s welcoming, rustic setting. Upon arrival, visitors should head to the Welcome Center for admission – $12 per person, $8 for seniors (60+), and free for children 23 months and under. Guests may also purchase bags of animal feed for $3, if you’d like to deepen the petting farm experience with the critters.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy free hayrides sponsored by National Heritage Academies, departing every hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., along with shopping at the Crafter’s Market, where talented artisans will be selling handcrafted items in and around the pavilion. On Saturday, October 18th, families can enjoy pony rides and an entertaining juggling performance by Crazy Craig. And Sunday, October 19th, brings the excitement of a mobile escape room. Food trucks will be on site both days, offering tasty treats to round out the experience. The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Ann Arbor Trick or Treat Parade

Starts at the Ann Arbor District Library: Downtown, 343 S 5th Ave, Ann Arbor
October 26th, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Families are invited to don their spookiest or most whimsical costumes and gather for a festive downtown tradition: the Ann Arbor Trick or Treat Parade. Meet at 11:30 a.m. to line up at the Ann Arbor District Library, where excitement builds among costumed children and their guardians. At 12 p.m., the parade sets off from the intersection of E William and S 5th Avenue, from where it will make its way down to Washington Street – an energetic procession led by the library and filled with community spirit. 

From 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., participating downtown businesses, marked with festive balloons, hand out treats as costumed visitors make their way through. Then, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., the celebration continues on Main Street with a lineup of “Spooktacular Activities” – lively Spooky Dancing hosted by DJ Ron Don, festive face painting courtesy of Color Carousel Face Painting, creative button-making with the Ann Arbor District Library, a coloring contest at the Ann Arbor Art Center, and a photo booth courtesy of Well’s Pumpkin Farm. There will also be pumpkin-themed games and more, ensuring that the fun lasts well into the afternoon.

EMU Volleyball vs. Kent State

Cheer on the Eastern Michigan University Eagles as they face the Kent State Golden Flashes in a thrilling Mid-American Conference (MAC) volleyball showdown at the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The matches are scheduled for Thursday, October 9th at 6 p.m. and Friday, October 10th at 4 p.m. Both games are free to attend, offering an excellent opportunity to experience high-energy collegiate volleyball.

These matches are part of Eastern Michigan’s 2025 volleyball promotional schedule. On October 9th, the team will host a Salute to Service Match, honoring military veterans, first responders, and their families with special activities and tributes throughout the game. The following day, October 10th, is Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, celebrating the dedicated faculty and staff who contribute to the university’s success.

Uncork a Cure for ALS

YORK Food and Drink, 1928 Packard St, Ann Arbor
October 16th, 6-9 p.m.

Join the Ann Arbor community for the 3rd Annual Uncork a Cure for ALS, a fundraising event hosted by Active Against ALS at YORK Food and Drink. This evening brings together local food, drink, music, and philanthropy to support research and raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The event will feature food from Zingerman’s and York, four 2-ounce wine tastings or two 12-ounce beers, and live music by the local band Four Roses. Attendees can also participate in an online auction, which opens on October 9th and closes during the event on October 16th at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $100 per person if purchased by September 30th and $120 after that date or at the door. Since its founding in 2008, the organization has raised close to $1 million for ALS research.
