The Ann Arbor Art Fair spans 30 city blocks and features over 1,000 artists from around the world. You’ll find everything from fine art and sculptures, to handmade jewelry and street performers. With live music, food trucks, and interactive installations such as art activities, it’s a summer must.
The event runs from Thursday, July 17th, through Saturday, July 19th. It is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
2. Sneak In Some Music at Sonic Lunch
This free lunchtime concert series brings live music to the heart of downtown every Thursday from June to September between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Featuring local favorites and nationally touring artists, Sonic Lunch is the perfect excuse to take your lunch break outdoors and enjoy the summertime vibe. You can also purchase lunch from a local vendor. Limited seating is available, and guests are also welcome to bring their own lawn chairs.
3. Have Fun at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s “Top of the Park”
For over 40 years, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s “Top of the Park” has been the season’s highlight. The series includes admission-free outdoor concerts, movies under the stars, kid-friendly activities and attractions, open-air spectacles, and local food vendors.
It also has a KidZone tent, which includes family-friendly, fun activities, like placing temporary tattoos or creating homemade instruments while jamming out to music. Attracting over 80,000 guests each year, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s “Top of the Park” is a true community celebration with something for everyone to enjoy.
4. Set the Stage with Shakespeare in the Arb
Experience the magic of Shakespeare in one of Ann Arbor’s most beautiful natural settings. This beloved event transforms Nichols Arboretum into a living stage, with the audience moving through the woods alongside the actors. It’s an immersive and unforgettable theater experience.
Shakespeare in the Arb will be performed from Thursday through Sunday, June 5th through the 29th. This year’s play, “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” is about two mistresses who discover that a pompous man who tries to flirt with them is, in all actuality, just trying to thicken his pockets. The women come up with a plan to fool him.
Guests are asked to plan for up to three miles of walking through various locations in the Arboretum. Please also bring a blanket or a chair, as this is a general admission, lawn-style seating. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for members, $15 for students and youth, and it’s free for youth under five years of age.
5. Hang By the River on Huron River Day
Celebrate Ann Arbor’s scenic Huron River with a day of live music, live animals, food trucks, nature walks, and educational activities. The day of the event, held on Sunday, May 18th, you can also watch one of Ann Arbor’s own sing. Laith Al-Saadi, a finalist from season 10 of “The Voice,” will be performing twice, bringing his bluesy, soulful, classic rockish sound to the park in its 45th anniversary event.

6. Rev Your Engine at the Rolling Sculpture Car Show

This one-day-only event turns downtown Ann Arbor into a car lover’s dream. From classic cruisers to high-end sports cars, the Rolling Sculpture Car Show is part art exhibit, part community block party. It features over 300 automobiles, offering something for everyone.
This year’s Rolling Sculpture Care Show will take place on Friday, July 11th, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and it’s free to the public.
7. Put Pride in Your Stride at the Ann Arbor Pride
Ann Arbor Pride returns Saturday, August 2nd, lighting up downtown with a celebration of love, support, and community. It’s a free, family-friendly event filled with heart, rhythm, and purpose.
9. Watch the Sky Light Up at Ann Arbor Jaycees 35th Annual 4th of July Parade
A summer classic, the Ann Arbor Jaycees 4th of July Parade draws thousands to the streets of downtown for a patriotic celebration full of creative floats, marching bands, civic groups, dance troupes, sports teams, and costumed characters.
The parade takes place from 10 a.m. to noon, leaving the rest of the day open for fireworks and picnics. It’s a nostalgic, all-American event that brings out the red, white, and blue in everyone.
10. Dance in the Streets at A2 Summer Streets
Thursdays through Sundays, from June 5th through August 31st, downtown Ann Arbor closes some of its busiest streets, including parts of Main Street, to cars and opens them up to pedestrians, performers, and pop-up events.
A2 Summer Streets features everything from street performers and chalk art, to spontaneous dance parties and outdoor dining experiences. It’s a casual, walkable celebration of community and creativity, with something new every time.
11. Take a Moonlight Paddle Trip at Gallup Park Livery
For a more tranquil summer experience, try a Moonlight Paddle Trip on the Huron River through Gallup Park Canoe & Kayak. Offered on select summer evenings from April through October, these guided canoe and kayak outings let you experience the water under the glow of the moon. It’s a peaceful, almost magical way to end a day in Ann Arbor, especially when fireflies are out and the river is calm.
If you can’t catch a guided Moonlight Paddle Trip, try canoeing, kayaking, or tubing at the park during the day.
12. Get Them to the Ya’ssoo Greek Festival of Ann Arbor

The Ya’ssoo Greek Festival runs from 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday, June 6th and Saturday, June 7th, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 8th. Admission is free on Friday, June 6th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and just $5 after. Kids 12 and under are free all weekend. Opa!
13. Head In for Some Healing Arts at the Boho Spirit Fest

15. Have a Picnic at a German Park Recreation Club
Three times every summer, the German Park Recreation Club throws one of the most beloved cultural picnics in town. Held on the last Saturday of June, July, and August, these lively gatherings are a blend of German tradition and Michigan summer charm.
Enjoy authentic German food like bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad, and giant soft pretzels, all while sipping on cold beer and listening to traditional German folk music performed live.
